Bhubaneswar: The School and Mass Education Department has directed all District Education Officers (DEOs) to take immediate and stringent action against schools that have continued operating despite the state government’s clear directive to shut down due to the ongoing heatwave.
A letter issued by Durga Prasad Mohapatra, Additional Secretary of the Department, highlights that although the state government announced the closure of all government, aided, and private schools from April 22, 2025, as a precautionary measure against extreme summer temperatures, some institutions have ignored this order and remained open, endangering students’ safety.
“Despite the issuance of the above instructions, information regarding the violation of these instructions by some schools has come to the notice of this department. Therefore, you are directed to take immediate steps to ensure strict compliance with the above instructions in your district,” the letter read.
The department has further instructed the DEOs to closely monitor schools in their respective areas and ensure the enforcement of the summer vacation directive without exception.
