Bhubaneswar: Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Saturday met protesting teachers at Gandhi Marg here on Teachers’ Day and assured them that the state government would resolve their issues in a very short time.
The ministers held discussions with the teachers, who have been staging an around-the-clock dharna on the main road of the state capital for the past 21 days after leaving their schools.
After the meeting, Suraj said the committee report concerning the teachers’ agitation had already been received by the government.
“The 79 reports comprising 800 pages are now in our possession. The state government will take a decision in a very short time,” the minister said.
He also urged the protesting teachers to send a representative delegation for detailed discussions with the government.
“Let a representative delegation come and discuss with us. We will hold detailed discussions with the representative body,” Suraj said.
The meeting came as the teachers continued their prolonged protest at Gandhi Marg, even as Teachers’ Day was observed across the state on Saturday.
