Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati on Tuesday lauded the state government’s initiative to promote Koraput coffee under the Adisha brand, saying the effort would go a long way in strengthening tribal livelihoods, encouraging entrepreneurship and creating better market opportunities for indigenous producers.
The Governor made the remarks during his visit to the Adisha Koraput Coffee Outlet at Rupali Square in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening. He was accompanied by the First Lady of the state, Dr Jayashree Kambhampati, who also interacted with visitors at the outlet.
During the visit, the Governor reviewed the functioning of the outlet and interacted with customers and employees. He appreciated the state’s efforts to popularise Odisha’s premium Koraput coffee through the Adisha brand, describing it as a significant initiative to enhance the income of tribal coffee growers by connecting them with wider markets.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes Development, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare Department, B. Parameswaran, Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation of Odisha Limited (TDCCOL) Managing Director Dr Poma Tudu and other senior officials of the corporation accompanied the Governor during the visit.
The Governor also commended the government’s efforts to showcase tribal products and promote value-added coffee products produced by tribal communities. Such initiatives, he said, not only help preserve and promote indigenous products but also generate sustainable livelihoods and contribute to inclusive economic growth.
He observed that strengthening market linkages for tribal producers is crucial for improving their socio-economic condition and expressed confidence that the Adisha initiative would help Koraput coffee gain greater recognition among consumers.
Koraput coffee, grown in the tribal-dominated highlands of southern Odisha, has earned recognition for its distinctive flavour and quality.
Through the Adisha brand, the state government has been working to expand its market presence while promoting a range of tribal products, aiming to enhance the income and welfare of tribal communities across the state.
