Bhubaneswar: Odisha has 2098 elephants and 27 tigers as per the 2023-24 wildlife census, informed Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia in the State Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a question by BJD MLA from Balikuda-Erasama Sarada Prasanna Jena, Minister Singhkhuntia further said that there are 1850 saltwater crocodiles at Bhitarkanika while Satakosia, Similipal, and Ghodahada dam have 97, 76 and 84 muggers (marsh crocodiles) respectively. He added that Mahanadi has 14 gharials.
The Minister informed that there are a total of 743 dolphins in Chilika Lake and all marine areas.
