Bhubaneswar: Odisha has 35 operational cold storages, with only 2 managed by the government and 33 by the private sector, revealed Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo in response to a query in the State Assembly today.

Deo’s reply came in response to a question raised by MLA Rama Chandra Kadam on the number of cold storages in Odisha.

According to Deo, the cold storages established in the last 10 years include K.C. Cold Storage and Sri Krishna Cold Storage in Sambalpur, Lath Sachidananda Agro in Bamra, and M/S Laxmi Cold Storage in Sundargarh, among others. However, some cold storages like Bharat Ice & Cold Storage in Sundargarh and Utkal Cold Storage are defunct.

The Minister further stated that out of the 26 cold storages set up in the state over the last decade, 22 are currently operational, while 4 are non-functional. The government is working to revive the defunct units and ensure the effective utilisation of these facilities to benefit our farmers and boost the state’s agricultural economy.
