Odisha Heatwave: Jharsuguda Sizzles At 43.3°C, Mercury Soars Across State

Bhubaneswar: The temperature across Odisha continued to soar on Sunday, with Jharsuguda recording the highest maximum temperature of 43.3°C, closely followed by Titlagarh at 43.0°C, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Several western and interior towns also reported severe heat conditions. Sambalpur recorded 42.0°C, Bhawanipatna 42.0°C, Sonepur 42.3°C, Sundargarh 41.5°C, Bolangir 41.5°C, Rourkela 41.5°C, Angul 41.1°C, Nuapada 41.0°C, and Hirakud 41.0°C, indicating persistent hot weather across the region.

Moderately high temperatures were observed in multiple parts of central and southern Odisha. Talcher and Phulbani recorded 40.6°C each, while Keonjhar registered 39.6°C. Other stations such as Baripada (37.2°C), Rayagada (37.0°C), Bhadrak (37.5°C), Jajpur (37.5°C), Dhenkanal (37.7°C), Deogarh (38.8°C), Nayagarh (38.6°C), and Paralakhemundi (38.2°C) also reported above-normal temperatures.

Coastal and southern districts, however, experienced relatively lower maximum temperatures. Balasore recorded 35.5°C, Cuttack 35.8°C, Bhubaneswar 36.6°C, Kendrapada 36.0°C, Chatrapur 34.0°C, Puri 33.0°C, Gopalpur 32.2°C, Paradip 31.9°C, and Daringbadi 36.0°C. Nabarangpur reported the lowest maximum temperature at 29.5°C, offering some relief compared to other parts of the state.

The IMD has advised residents to take necessary precautions in view of the prevailing hot and uncomfortable weather conditions.
