Odisha Likely To Experience Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms For Next 3 Days: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The IMD has issued Orange and Yellow warnings for several districts of Odisha for the next three days, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity.

According to the forecast meant for Day 1 (valid upto 8:30 am on Sept 12), heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangapur, Koraput and Malkangiri. These districts have been issued Orange Warning.

Besides, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind with wind speed reaching upto 40-50 kmph is also very likely at one or two places over the districts of Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada. Meanwhile, a Yellow Warning has also been issued for these districts. That apart, heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching upto 30-40 kmph is very likely at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj.

For Day 2 valid from 08:30 am of 12.09.2026 to 08: 30 am of 13.09.2026, a Yellow Warning has been sounded. Heavy Rainfall is very likely at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur and Koraput. Besides, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind upto 30-40 kmph is very likely over the districts of Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam.

For Day 3 valid from 08:30 am of 13.09.2026 to 08:30 am of 14.09.2026, a Yellow Warning has been issued for thunderstorm activity. Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching upto 30-40 kmph is very likely at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.

The department has advised people to remain alert and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and lightning activity.
