Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a prisoner serving a life sentence in the Karanjia sub-jail of Mayurbhanj district escaped on Wednesday.
The absconding prisoner, identified as Laxman Mohanty, was serving life in a murder case registered under the Thakurmunda police station.
In the absence of the jailer, who is currently on leave, the sub-jailer of Karanjia Jail lodged a written complaint at Karanjia police station.
A similar case was reported from the Karanjia sub-jail in 2019 when a prisoner named Bhagwan Tudu who was also serving a life term in a murder case, escaped from the prison for which the then-serving jailer blamed the jail warder for the incident.
The jail warder, not being able to handle public humiliation had committed suicide.
Further investigation into the matter is on.
