Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is taking urgent steps to locate missing merchant navy cadet Sarthak Mohapatra, who vanished from the EA Jersey vessel near Malaysian waters on February 3.
Principal Resident Commissioner Vishal Gagan has written to four central departments, including the Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Secretary, Foreign Secretary, Home Secretary, and Shipping DG, seeking help in rescuing the 23 –year-old Odia cadet.
Sarthak, a Bhadrak district native, was serving as a maritime cadet with Anglo-Eastern Ship Management. He was last seen entering his cabin on February 3, and his mother, Rashmita Mohapatra, had spoken to him via video call the previous day. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are unclear.
Sarthak’s mother has appealed to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and the Odisha DGP YB Khurania for urgent government intervention. The search operation is underway, with efforts being made to locate the missing cadet
