Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government is weighing a proposal to introduce Bhagavad Gita sessions in schools as part of efforts to strengthen the moral and intellectual development of students. School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond shared this information in the Assembly on Friday.

Replying to a question from BJP MLA Sitansu Sekhar Mohapatra of Bhadrak, Gond said the proposal forms part of the Odisha Curriculum Framework for School Education 2025, which is being aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP).

“There are proposals to recite the sound of Om thrice, chant verses from the Bhagavad Gita, include moral stories, prayers, and peace hymns during daily assemblies. These steps aim to instill values and sharpen the intellect of students,” the Minister stated.

Mohapatra had sought clarity on whether the government intends to formally include the Bhagavad Gita in elementary and high school education for the spiritual, moral, and intellectual growth of children.
