Bhubaneswar: An Odisha native died following a clash at a rented house suspected of functioning as a brothel in Thrissur city, police said on Sunday. Six people, including two men and four women, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Danpathy Naik (27), a resident of Dangasil village in Rayagada district of Odisha. His two friends, Makkara Majhi (21) and Trinath Majhi (23), also from Odisha, were injured in the incident that occurred on the night of June 18 (Thursday).
According to police, the three men had visited the rented house at Korapath Lane in central Thrissur. An altercation reportedly broke out when they demanded a refund of money while leaving the premises.
The situation escalated into a violent clash, during which the occupants of the house allegedly assaulted the trio. Police said Naik sustained a severe head injury after being struck with a steel bangle.
He was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning.
Police said six persons, including two men and four women from other states, were arrested in connection with the incident. They were allegedly operating the suspected brothel from the rented house.
Investigators suspect that the premises had been used for illegal activities targeting migrant workers. The house was reportedly rented around six months ago.
Police also said that one of the alleged operators, identified as Bichu Naik, a native of Odisha, is currently absconding.
Women from Odisha, West Bengal, and Assam were staying at the premises and were allegedly involved in illegal activities, police said.
Thrissur East Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the incident. The body of the deceased will be handed over to relatives after completion of post-mortem procedures, police added.
