Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Sunday observed the Shraddha Divas of noted tribal freedom fighter Shaheed Laxman Nayak, with leaders, officials, and citizens paying heartfelt tributes at multiple locations across the capital city.
Wreath-laying ceremonies were organised in a solemn and dignified atmosphere to honour the legacy of Nayak, who remains a symbol of courage, selflessness, and tribal pride in India’s freedom movement.
The day’s observances began early in the morning, with floral tributes offered at the Tribal Exhibition Ground, followed by another ceremony at his statue at Kalinga Hospital Chowk. Several dignitaries and members of the public gathered to pay homage and remember his contributions to the struggle for independence and the rights of tribal communities.
Later, Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy paid tribute to the martyr by offering flowers at his statue near Gate No. 1 of the Assembly premises. She was joined by senior officials and public representatives during the ceremony.
Among those present were Odisha Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Rout, former minister Arabinda Dhali, and MP Muzibulla (Munna) Khan. Officials from the Information and Public Relations department, including Director (Technical) Gurbir Singh, Deputy Director Sucheta Priyadarshini, and Assistant Director Deepak Kumar Sahu, also attended the event.
Members of various cultural and social organisations, including Shabari Sanskrutika Parishad and Acharya Vihar Parishad, along with students, intellectuals, and senior citizens, participated in large numbers and offered floral tributes.
Speakers on the occasion highlighted Nayak’s fearless leadership and unwavering commitment to justice, noting that his life and sacrifice continue to inspire generations. They emphasised the need to uphold his ideals and work towards the upliftment of tribal communities.
Shaheed Laxman Nayak played a pivotal role in mobilising tribal people against British rule and laid down his life for the nation, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate across Odisha and beyond.
