Jajpur: After a long search, a team of Fire Service personnel in the presence of police was able to retrieve the ballot box of Booth no.9 of Dasarathpur panchayat under Dasarathpur block in Jajpur district from a pond.
The ballot box has been seized by the police.
Police have launched a manhunt to nab the two miscreants who had dumped the ballot box in the pond after snatching it from polling personnel who were on their way to deposit at the strong room located at the block headquarters.
According to reports, a polling booth was created exclusively for women voters at the Iswarpur Govt Upgraded High School in Dasarathpur block.
After polling of votes was over, at around 4 PM polling personnel were carrying the ballot box to deposit it at the strong room located in the block office about 200 mts away from the polling booth when some miscreants suddenly appeared on the spot and forcibly snatched away the ballot box from them and dumped it in the pond.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area. However, no arrests were made till the filing of this report.
