Bhubaneswar: Odisha today paid rich tributes to Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das on his birth anniversary, remembering his immense contribution to Odia identity, Odia Asmita (pride), and the formation of a separate Odisha state. Leaders, officials, and citizens gathered in Bhubaneswar to honour the legendary social reformer and statesman.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held at Lok Bhavan Square at 8 a.m., where Speaker Surama Padhy offered floral tributes at the statue of Madhusudan Das. She paid homage and described ‘Madhu Babu’ as a strong symbol of unity and pride of the Odia people. She said his ideals and vision of life continue to inspire generations and remain relevant even today.
Senior officials of the Information and Public Relations Department, including Director Anuj Kumar Das Pattanaik, Joint Director Surajit Mishra, and Deputy Director Sucheta Priyadarshini, along with other officers and staff, participated in the ceremony and paid their respects.
The event also witnessed participation from political leaders, members of Utkal Sammilani, representatives of various social and political organisations, intellectuals, and members of the public, who gathered to offer floral tributes and remember the contributions of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Das.
The programme concluded with collective homage to Madhusudan Das, whose role in shaping Odisha’s identity continues to be widely acknowledged across the state.
