Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police have made significant strides in tackling crime, illegal trade, and anti-social activities under the special statewide enforcement campaign ‘Ops Garuda’, launched on August 1, 2025, following the directives of Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania.
The campaign is being led by Superintendents of Police (SPs) in all districts and is set to continue till August 14.
Announcing the details at a press conference, Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Sanjay Kumar informed that the campaign has been initiated to intensify the crackdown on criminals, illegal narcotics trade, illegal arms trafficking, and gambling. He added that the operation is being conducted under his direct supervision and aims to boost public safety and law enforcement presence across the state.
“The campaign will be intensified further to ensure that criminal activities are curbed. Odisha Police is committed to ensuring safety and security for the common man,” said ADG Sanjay Kumar.
The statewide enforcement achievements are as follows:
- A total of 3,189 Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) have been executed, with another 298 cases otherwise disposed of.
- Excise department registered 890 cases, seizing over 17,000 litres of illicit liquor.
- Law enforcement agencies recovered 51 firearms, 95 rounds of ammunition, and cash amounting to Rs 1,45,500.
- Narcotics control teams seized 888.09 kg of ganja, 68.57 grams of brown sugar, along with two vehicles and Rs 63,750 in NDPS-related cases.
- Eleven gambling cases resulted in Rs 2,79,485 being seized.
- Drunken driving enforcement led to 115 cases with an equal number of vehicles confiscated.
- A total of 129 criminals were arrested during the operation.
District-wise highlights include:
- Ganjam reported the highest number of NBWs executed (309), alongside 10 firearms seized and 13 arrests in illegal arms trafficking cases.
- In Rourkela, one accused was apprehended with 10 firearms, while gambling cases numbered three with Rs 1,48,330 recovered and 17 arrests made.
- Kandhamal saw the seizure of 535 kg of ganja and 15 arrests in narcotics-related offenses.
- Keonjhar registered the highest excise activity with 107 cases and confiscation of 1,509 litres of illicit liquor.
The successes under ‘Ops Garuda’ underscore the commitment and coordination of police forces across districts.
All Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) have been instructed to maintain the momentum and consistently use the term ‘Ops Garuda’ in media and public communications to ensure clarity and uniformity.
