Cuttack: In a significant boost to the criminal justice system, the Odisha Police on Friday recognized the outstanding contributions of officers involved in securing swift punishments in criminal cases following the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
The event, held at the state police headquarters in Bhubaneswar, saw Superintendents of Police (SPs), Investigating Officers, Supervisory Officers, and Public Prosecutors from 10 districts being felicitated. These teams played a key role in the successful investigation, timely filing of charge sheets, and speedy trials leading to convictions in 27 high-impact cases.
On the occasion, Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania highlighted the impressive state-wide achievements under the new criminal laws. He stated that punishment has been delivered in 360 cases across Odisha in just one year since the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
DGP Khurania attributed this success to the dedicated efforts of police personnel, seamless cooperation between various wings of the criminal justice system, and the necessary technical and administrative support extended by the state government.
He emphasized that the BNS has streamlined investigations, introduced stricter timelines for charge sheets and trials, and enabled faster delivery of justice, resulting in higher conviction rates. The felicitated officers received certificates of appreciation along with financial rewards as a token of recognition for their exemplary performance.
Senior police officials present at the event praised the teams for their meticulous investigations and effective coordination with prosecutors, which helped secure convictions in a shorter timeframe compared to the earlier system.
