Cuttack: The Odisha police are taking strict action against the sand, gravel, and laterite stone mafia, conducting raids across various locations and seizing sand-laden tractors, trucks, tippers, and dumper trucks. Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania provided this update during a media briefing.
DGP Khurania stated that the special operation, launched on the 7th of last month, is being carried out in collaboration with the district administration and the Mines department. So far, 456 cases have been registered against the mafia statewide, and 524 vehicles, including tractors, trucks, tippers, and dumper trucks, have been seized. In addition, 360 individuals have been arrested, and over 100 others have been served notices.
DGP Khurania emphasized that the operation will continue unabated. He also urged local residents to assist the police by providing information about illegal sand and gravel smuggling activities.
Khurania expressed confidence that this sustained police campaign will significantly curb the menace of the sand, gravel, and stone mafia in the state.
