Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police has launched a state-wide special operation “Operation Cyber Kachch” to strengthen cyber security and take strict action against cybercriminals. State Director General of Police YB Khurania announced the operation in a high-level review meeting at the State Police Headquarters.

The operation has led to significant breakthroughs, including the arrest of two cybercriminals in Balangir district for opening bank accounts in the names of various people and defrauding them of over Rs 5 crore. The police seized 29 passbooks, 15 cheque books, swipe machines, and mobile phones.

In Mayurbhanj district, a case has been registered against four accused for using anonymous bank accounts (Mule Accounts) related to cyber fraud. Notices have been issued, and investigations are underway.

The campaign, which will continue till February 27, 2026, aims to control transactions of anonymous bank accounts and fake SIM cards used for cyber fraud. Odisha Police has prepared a special strategy to prevent cybercrime, including identifying and arresting operators selling bulk SIM cards using fake IDs and monitoring ATM/cheque withdrawal hotspots.

The operation is based on information from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Special task forces have been formed in each district under the leadership of the Superintendent of Police (SP) and DCP of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police.

DGP Khurania appealed to the public to be cautious and not share confidential information, emphasizing Odisha Police’s commitment to making Odisha a safe and aware cyber-state through “Operation Cyber Kachch”.
