Odisha Police Mourns Demise Of Senior IPS Officer Shefeen Ahamed K

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police fraternity on Monday mourned the demise of senior IPS officer and Inspector General of Police (IGP), Crime Branch, Shefeen Ahamed K, with senior police officials paying tributes to the officer and recalling his distinguished career and contributions to the force.

A condolence meeting was organised at Police Bhawan in Bhubaneswar in the afternoon under the chairmanship of Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Vinaytosh Mishra. Floral tributes were offered at the portrait of the late officer, followed by a silent prayer for the eternal peace of his soul.

The Odisha IPS Association conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

Addressing the gathering, DGP Vinaytosh Mishra described Shefeen Ahamed K as a competent, hardworking and dedicated IPS officer who had earned a distinguished reputation during his long career.

Mishra said the officer had served in several important positions and discharged his responsibilities efficiently, thereby enhancing the prestige and reputation of the Odisha Police. He described his demise as an “irreparable loss” to society and the police department.

The DGP also recalled several memorable moments associated with the late officer and expressed his heartfelt condolences to his family.

At the outset, Odisha IPS Association Secretary and Additional DGP (Modernisation) S.K. Priyadarsi spoke about Shefeen Ahamed K’s career and contributions to the police service.

Born in Kerala in 1976, Shefeen Ahamed K joined the Indian Police Service as a member of the 2003 RR batch. After undergoing training in Sundaragada district in 2005, he began his career as SDPO, Gunupur.

He later served as Superintendent of Police in Debagada, Jharsuguda and Gajapati districts, besides holding assignments in the Vigilance Directorate, Brahmapur and Kalahandi.

During his career, Shefeen Ahamed K made significant contributions to anti-Naxal operations. He also went on deputation to his home state of Kerala for five years, where he served in various capacities, including SP (Computer), Thiruvananthapuram, AIG (Headquarters), DIG (Administration) and DIG (Armed Police Battalion).

His contribution to laying the foundation for anti-Naxal operations in Kerala was particularly acknowledged.

In 2019, he returned to Odisha and served as DIG (Headquarters), Cuttack, DIG, South Western Range, Koraput, and DIG (Technical), Kataka.

He subsequently held several key positions, including IGP (Technical), Cuttack, IGP (Fire Services and Home Guards), and IGP (HRPC), Odisha.

Shefeen Ahamed K had been serving as IGP (Crime Branch) since July 10, 2023.

Several senior police and government officials attended the condolence meeting and paid their respects to the late officer. Those present included Director, Intelligence and ADGP R.P. Koche; DG, Prisons and Correctional Services, Susant Kumar Nath; ADGP (Anti-Naxal Operations and Special Intelligence Wing) Sanjeeb Panda; Director, Directorate of Vigilance, Yashwant Jethwa; Special Secretary, Home Department, R.K. Sharma; Director, SFSL, Dr Santosh Bala; Additional DGP (Law and Order), Sanjay Kumar; Transport Commissioner, Odisha and Additional DGP (Prisons), Amitabh Thakur; Police Commissioner, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, Dr Suresh Dev Datta Singh; Additional DGP (Headquarters), Prateek Mohanty; and Additional DGP (HRPC), Yatindra Koyal, among others.

The condolence meeting was conducted by Additional DGP (Modernisation) S.K. Priyadarsi.
