Bhubaneswar: In a major statewide crackdown ahead of the festive season, the Odisha Police carried out “Operation Agni” from September 14 to September 27, 2025, targeting illegal storage, transportation, and sale of firecrackers and explosives.

The drive, launched under the directives of Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania and supervised by ADG (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, led to the registration of 184 cases, arrest of 133 persons, and issuance of 45 notices. Police also seized firecrackers and explosive materials worth nearly ₹8.25 crore.

Officials said the operation has significantly curtailed the illegal firecracker trade, ensuring public safety during Durga Puja and Diwali.

Among districts, Boudh recorded the highest seizure with materials worth ₹5 crore, 10 cases, and 5 arrests. Angul followed with seizures worth ₹1.5 crore, 17 cases, and 13 arrests. In Ganjam, items valued at ₹21 lakh were seized, with 14 cases registered, while Keonjhar saw seizures worth ₹15.16 lakh with 21 arrests.

Police said such operations will continue to safeguard lives and property, sending a strong message against illegal firecracker and explosives trade in the state.
