Sambalpur: Odisha Police’s special initiative ‘Operation Nyaya Siddha’ has led to the conviction of two accused persons in separate cases of rape and sexual abuse of minor girls in Sambalpur district. The POCSO Court has sentenced the accused to 21 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 in both cases.
In the first case, the accused was convicted under Section 65(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 of the POCSO Act for raping an 11-year-old minor girl in Bherapalli village under Dhama police station. The investigation and trial process, from the commission of the crime to the announcement of the final verdict, was completed in just 79 days.
In the second case, Bhishma Pulei (27) was convicted and sentenced to 21 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl under Reirakhol Police Station.
Director General of Police, YB Khurania, congratulated the Sambalpur District SP and the investigating officers, expressing satisfaction over the speedy investigation and conviction in a short time after the implementation of the new Indian law. Odisha Police reiterates its commitment to protecting women and children and will continue to work with determination to ensure justice.
