Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Suresh Routray aka Sura Routray has been expelled from Congress for six years.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Monday informed about Routray’s expulsion in a press release.
AICC took tough stand against the veteran leader after complaints of indiscipline and anti-party activities poured in against him.
“Taking note of the complaints of indiscipline and anti-party activities, the Hon’ble Congress President has approved the expulsion of Shri Suresh Kumar Routray from the party for six years with immediate effect”, read the release issued by All India Congress Committee.
It may be mentioned that Sura’s younger son Manmath Routray is contesting the poll from the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat on a BJD ticket while Sura is a veteran Congress leader.
According to sources, Suresh came under the scanner of AICC after he was seen asking for votes for his son Manmath who belongs to the ruling Biju Janata Dal.
Taking note of the veteran leader’s support for his son, Congress had slapped a show-cause notice on him.
Suresh, however, expressed his displeasure over the notice clarifying that he would not campaign for any other party. But, no party can obstruct the father-son relationship.
