Bhubaneswar: The state government is preparing a comprehensive plan to reform the legal system and ensure timely justice for the people. To lead this initiative, a one-day workshop was organized at Lok Seva Bhawan for effective management of civil cases in district courts. Government Pleaders, Additional Government Pleaders and associate lawyers attended the workshop.
Inaugurating the workshop, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said providing appropriate and speedy justice to all people of the state is the top priority of the state government. He said Public Prosecutors, Additional Public Prosecutors and lawyers have an important role in leading the justice system.
“You are a part of the constitutional system and the judiciary. Therefore, it is very important to give importance to the judicial process along with a complete review of various laws and regulations,” he said. The Minister also stressed on the use of technology in courts. “In today’s situation, the proper use of artificial intelligence and its timeliness will prove to be very useful in the field of speedy justice delivery,” he added.
Justice Shashikant Mishra joined as Guest of Honour and discussed various aspects of civil and criminal cases. He spoke on the role of government lawyers and the importance of Evidence, Cross Examination and Oral Argument. He said lawyers can find solutions to doubts arising in legal cases through exchange of knowledge.
Advocate General Pitrambar Acharya, the keynote speaker, gave his views on the role and duties of government lawyers in court and the proper implementation of constitutional provisions in handling civil cases.
Principal Secretary of the Law Department Dr. Pabitra Mohan Samal delivered the welcome address. He highlighted various public welfare programs taken up by the Law Department, welfare schemes for lawyers and the focus of the workshop. In the technical session, former Orissa High Court Judge Justice Debabrat Das spoke on Appeals and Recent Judicial Developments, while former Orissa High Court Judge Justice Anand Charan Behera delivered a lecture on Drafting and Case Management. Professor Dr. Durgesh Chandra Mohapatra spoke on the Civil Procedure Code, and senior lawyer Surya Prasad Mishra addressed practical problems through case studies, group discussions and a question-and-answer session.
