Odisha Reintroduces Pass-Fail System In Schools To Boost Learning Standards

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has reintroduced the pass-fail system in schools, ending the policy of automatic promotion that existed under the previous regime.

From now on, students will remain in the same class until they clear the required standards, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond announced on Tuesday.

Explaining the move, the Minister said that if a student fails in the annual examination, they will be given a chance to reappear within a few days. Only after passing will they be promoted to the next class. “This reform will make it easier to assess the actual learning levels of children, which was difficult earlier without a pass-fail mechanism,” Gond stated.

He added that the change is aimed at improving the quality of education in government schools. Teachers have been urged not to neglect their teaching duties, as the government is committed to raising academic standards and motivating students to study with seriousness.

The Minister asserted that the system will help bring greater accountability and ensure that students meet the expected learning outcomes before progressing further in their education.
