Bhubaneswar: In a significant achievement, Odisha has witnessed a substantial decrease in multidimensional poverty, according to the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) progress review 2023 published by NITI Aayog in July 2023.
Responding to BJD MLA Dhruba Sahoo, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Assembly that the state’s multidimensional poverty has declined from 29.34% to 15.68% between 2015-16 and 2019-21, freeing 62.6 lakh people from poverty.
Odisha now ranks 8th among all states in India in terms of Head Count Ratio, with a multidimensional poverty rate of 14.96% at the national level.
