Bhubaneswar: In a major step towards strengthening citizen safety through technology and digital innovation, the Government of Odisha has launched an advanced Safety Module on Odisha Yatri, transforming it into India’s first state-owned integrated Safety and Mobility platform. The initiative reflects the State’s commitment to building a safer, smarter and more connected Odisha by bringing mobility and public safety services together on a single trusted platform.
Already widely used by citizens for everyday travel through services such as auto-rickshaw booking, cab services, Ama Bus information and ticketing, and boating services, Odisha Yatri will now provide a comprehensive suite of personal safety features. The newly introduced Safety Module has been integrated with Odisha Police and the national emergency response system, 112, enabling users to seek immediate assistance through real-time location-based alerts during emergencies.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Women & Child Development, Mission Shakti and Tourism, Pravati Parida, said that citizen safety remains a top priority of the Government. She emphasized that every citizen should have access to reliable safety support whenever required and highlighted the role of technology in making public services more accessible, responsive and inclusive.
The Safety Module incorporates a range of advanced features designed to enhance personal security. Through the One-Tap SOS feature, users can instantly send emergency alerts along with their live location to Odisha Police and trusted contacts. Gesture-triggered SOS activation allows users to seek assistance simply by shaking an Android device or tapping the back of an iPhone, ensuring support even when immediate access to the screen is not possible. The platform also enables real-time location sharing with family members and trusted contacts, while additional features such as Emergency Siren and Ambient Audio Recording provide further support during emergencies. To ensure wider accessibility, the Safety Module is available in both Odia and English.
With the launch of the Safety Module, Odisha Yatri evolves beyond a mobility application into a citizen-centric digital platform that combines transportation and safety services within a unified ecosystem. Looking ahead, the Government envisions Odisha Yatri becoming India’s first state-owned Super App by integrating a wider range of mobility, safety and citizen services. Future additions will include intercity bus services, digital ticketing for major tourism destinations and other public service offerings.
By bringing together mobility, safety and public services on a single platform, Odisha Yatri represents a significant milestone in Odisha’s digital governance journey and reinforces the State’s commitment to leveraging technology for improving quality of life, enhancing public safety and delivering citizen-centric governance.
