Dubai: Odisha Samaj UAE (OSUAE), in association with Shree Jagannath Darshan-UAE, organised the 16th annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Dubai on July 19, bringing together more than 700 devotees for a grand celebration of Odisha’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
The annual festival, which began as a small community initiative 15 years ago, has grown into one of the largest gatherings of the Indian diaspora in the UAE, reflecting the sustained efforts of the Odia community to preserve the traditions associated with Lord Jagannath.
Devotees, accompanied by their families and friends, participated in the celebrations and offered prayers to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. The event was attended by Joydeep Mohanto, HOC and Consul (Protocol, RTI & Culture) at the Consulate General of India in Dubai, who joined the festivities with his family.
The programme featured devotional bhajans and sankirtan, creating a spiritual atmosphere for participants. A major attraction was the distribution of prasad and the traditional Chhapan Bhog comprising 56 offerings, prepared by members of the community.
Addressing the gathering, OSUAE President Amiya Mishra said the Rath Yatra symbolises unity, cultural identity and the shared responsibility of preserving Odisha’s heritage among Indians living abroad. He urged community members to remain connected to their roots and continue supporting such cultural initiatives.
The celebrations also drew participants from several other Indian states, underscoring the festival’s inclusive character and the spirit of unity in diversity. The event concluded with organisers reaffirming their commitment to promoting Odisha’s cultural legacy and strengthening bonds within the Indian community in the UAE.
