Bhubaneswar: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Thursday said that the state has witnessed notable progress in addressing the issues faced by migrant workers.

Speaking to the media, Singh Deo stated that the state government has taken concrete steps to streamline the management of migrant labourers.

“This year, the situation regarding migrant workers has improved significantly. District Collectors and police officials have been instructed to take swift action on any complaints received. Wherever required, arrangements are being made to bring migrant workers back to Odisha,” he said.

However, the Deputy CM acknowledged challenges, particularly when workers migrate without proper registration under licensed contractors.

“We face problems when workers go outside the state without registering through an authorised contractor. Two persons involved in the illegal migration of workers have been terminated from government service,” he added.

Singh Deo emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal migration and protect the rights of migrant workers.

“While I cannot claim that 100 percent of the issues have been resolved, we are doing our best. The government is taking all necessary measures to manage the situation effectively,” he concluded.
