Bhubaneswar: Searing heatwave conditions made life miserable as mercury soared to 40 degrees Celsius or more in as many as 22 places across Odisha on Saturday, a day after registering a drop.
Nine places out of the 22 including State Capital-Bhubaneswar recorded maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius or more.
While Angul with 42.1 degrees remained the hottest place in the State, Bhubaneswar with 41.7 was the second hottest place.
The places that recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees or more are Chandbali (40.3), Cuttack (41.0), Bhubaneswar (41.7), Angul (42.1), Baripada (41.0), Jharsuguda (40.3), Sambalpur (40.5), Sundargarh (40.0), Bhawanipatna (40.0), Bolangir (41.0), Titilagarh (40.4), Talcher (40.3), Bhadrak (40.5), Jajpur (40.2), Dhenkanal (41.5), Deogarh (41.5), Nuapada (40.2), Jagatsinghpur (40.2), Kendrapara (40.5), Sonepur (40.7), Boudh (41.5) and Paralakhemundi (41.0).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its forecast has said that maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is very likely to gradually rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius at many places over the districts of interior Odisha and there is very likely no large change over Coastal Odisha during the next 3 days and also no large change thereafter over the districts of Odisha.
