Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Friday directed the Collectors of 13 districts to review the preparedness measures in view of the low pressure over the North Bay of Bengal that may trigger heavy rain in parts of Odisha for the next five days.
The districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul have been alerted by the Special Relief Commissioner.
In a letter to the Collectors, the SRC wrote that a Low-Pressure Area has formed over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Coastal areas of Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal. Associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move westnorth-west wards across Gangetic West Bengal & Jharkhand during next two days.
“Under its impact there may be heavy rain and flood-like situation in the north Odisha. It is, therefore, requested to review the preparedness at the district level, take appropriate action and intimate the situation of the district from time to time,” the letter read.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in most parts of the State for the next five days.
