Bhubaneswar: The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) today alerted Collectors of nine districts as the Hirakud Dam released its first flood water of the season.
The Collectors of Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Angul, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Puri have been asked to remain alert and monitor the situation.
As per information of the Department of Water Resources, Hirakud Dam Authority is releasing water through 20 gates today in 3 phases, 7 gates at 9.30 am, 12.30 pm and rest six gates at 2.30 pm respectively, said a letter sent to the Collectors by the Office of the SRC..
“Due to the opening of such gates, the Khairmal discharge would be around 4.50 lakh Cusecs on 29th July morning 8.00 AM and Mundali discharge would be around 5.00 lakh Cusecs by 30 July at 11.00 AM,” the letter read.
The Collectors have been asked to alert people of the riverside not to enter into Mahanadi. Animals should not be allowed for grazing close to the river Mahanadi.
The District Emergency Operation Centre should be manned by senior officers of the district. The Centre should closely monitor the situation so that no untoward incident happens.
