Bhubaneswar: Temperatures continued to rise sharply across Odisha on Monday, with several places in the western and interior parts of the state recording above 42 degrees Celsius, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the IMD’s Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

Boudh emerged as the hottest place in the state at 45.9 degrees Celsius, followed by Titlagarh at 45.5 degrees Celsius and Balangir and Nuapada at 44.5 degrees Celsius each.

Jharsuguda recorded 44.4 degrees Celsius, while Sambalpur touched 44.2 degrees Celsius. Talcher and Sundargarh also registered 42.2 degrees Celsius each, as intense summer heat continued to grip large parts of the state.

The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 38.3 degrees Celsius, while Cuttack registered 37.8 degrees Celsius. Coastal districts remained relatively cooler compared to western Odisha, with Paradip recording the lowest maximum temperature at 34.7 degrees Celsius.

Among other major towns, Angul recorded 42.1 degrees Celsius, Bargarh 42 degrees Celsius, Sonepur 43 degrees Celsius, Hirakud 43.2 degrees Celsius and Malkangiri 40.2 degrees Celsius.

The IMD bulletin indicated dry weather conditions across almost all districts, with negligible rainfall reported during the past 24 hours. Jharsuguda recorded 6.4 mm rainfall, while Bargarh received 2.6 mm. Trace rainfall was recorded at Rourkela.

Minimum temperatures also remained high in several places, with Sambalpur recording 31 degrees Celsius and Bhawanipatna 30.2 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity levels during the afternoon remained below 50 per cent in several western districts, contributing to discomfort and dry heat conditions.

The Meteorological Centre is likely to continue monitoring the prevailing heat conditions as temperatures remain significantly above normal in many parts of the state.
