Chennai: A high-level Odisha government team, led by Rajesh Agrawala, Special Secretary of the Labour & ESI Department, reached Chennai on Monday in connection with the unfortunate gas leak incident that claimed lives and injured several Odia workers.
According to the latest update, the body of one deceased worker was shifted to Chennai last night, and the post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted today. M.M. Paik, a member of the Odisha team, will remain in Chennai to coordinate with the Joint Commissioner of Labour and officials of the Government Medical College Hospital regarding the post-mortem and other related formalities.
Rajesh Agrawala and B.B. Acharya will proceed to Tiruvallur, where several injured workers are undergoing treatment, some of them in critical condition. The body of another deceased worker is also currently at Tiruvallur.
Meanwhile, around 130 affected workers have been safely accommodated in a nearby mandap and community hall, where food and other essential arrangements have been made for them. The Odisha team has established contact with senior Labour Department officials in both Chennai and Tiruvallur and coordination with the local administration is underway to ensure smooth handling of the situation.
The state government is closely monitoring the developments and providing all necessary support to the affected workers and families. Further updates will be issued shortly.
