Odisha To Allot Land To Families Displaced By Natural Calamities: Revenue Minister

Bhubaneswar: Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has announced that the Odisha government will provide land to people who lose their land due to natural disasters, such as floods that alter river courses. The minister said reports will soon be sought from all district collectors to identify affected families.

Speaking to the media, Pujari highlighted that the issue has persisted in areas like Niali since 1982. In both Niali and Baramba, repeated floods have caused rivers to change their course, swallowing farmlands and leaving many landless.

“The government has decided that those who lose their land will be allotted land,” he said, adding that a final decision will be taken once the district collectors submit their reports.

The minister also directed officials to immediately resolve pending land settlement cases, some of which have been lingering for generations.

“It is often seen that the son is fighting a case that was started by his father. All such disputes must be resolved by October,” Pujari instructed.

He further stated that the department is exploring ways to increase the number of revenue courts to speed up grievance redressal.
