Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Electoral Officer, R.S. Gopalan, has announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will begin from May 30. The exercise will be conducted simultaneously in 16 states, including Odisha.

Addressing a press conference, Gopalan said that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will start door-to-door verification from May 30. The primary objective of this Special Intensive Revision is to clean the electoral rolls by removing the names of those who are not Indian citizens.

“At present, Odisha has around 3.34 crore registered voters. So far, 9.80 lakh voters have been deleted as they were found to be non-citizens. The state has completed 94.61% voter mapping. After the revision, the total number of polling booths in the state will stand at 45,255, with approximately 1,200 voters per booth. While there are currently 27,723 Booth Level Agents, as many as 38,123 BLOs have been appointed for the exercise. During the house-to-house survey, voters will not be required to produce any documents.”

Revealing the detailed timeline for the SIR, CEO said, “Preparation, training, and printing work will be carried out from May 20 to May 29. The door-to-door survey by BLOs will continue from May 30 to June 28. Rationalisation of polling stations will be completed by June 28. The draft electoral roll will be published on July 5, followed by the claim and objection period from July 5 to August 4. Final electoral roll will be published on September 6, 2026.”

The Chief Electoral Officer added that the process will help ensure greater accuracy and purity of the electoral rolls.
