Bhubaneswar: Odisha will automatically cancel the registration certificates (RCs) of around 40 lakh vehicles placed in the permanent archive due to non-compliance with prescribed documentation requirements, Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena said on Monday.
Of the approximately 1.40 crore vehicles registered in the state, around 40 lakh have been placed in the permanent archive for failing to meet the required documentation criteria, Jena said while speaking to a regional television channel.
Explaining the classification process, the minister said the Centre has categorised vehicles based on their compliance status. Vehicles that fulfil the prescribed requirements and possess the necessary documents are classified as compliant, while those failing to meet the criteria are treated as non-compliant.
Vehicles that have remained inactive for two to three years may be placed in a temporary archive, while those inactive beyond the prescribed period may be shifted to the permanent archive, he said.
The RCs of vehicles placed in the permanent archive will be automatically cancelled, Jena said.
However, owners wishing to use such vehicles in the future will have to apply for fresh registration. Their applications will subsequently be forwarded to the Centre for further processing, he added.
