Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government will host the Fifth National Chilika Bihanga Utsav from January 6 to 12, aiming to promote bird conservation and raise awareness about the rich biodiversity of Chilika Lake.
The event will focus on birdwatching and guided visits to the Chilika Bird Sanctuary, providing participants with a firsthand experience of the unique avian life at Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon.
Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia announced that the Utsav will bring together environmentalists, scientists, and bird enthusiasts from across the country.
The event will feature discussions and workshops on bird conservation and the ecological significance of Chilika. Students from schools, colleges, and art institutions will also participate, adding a youthful perspective to the conservation dialogue.
To enhance learning, the Odisha Wildlife Organization will screen documentaries highlighting the diverse bird species and ecosystems of Chilika.
The event is expected to deepen public engagement with conservation efforts and inspire collective action to protect avian habitats.
