Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to take the global stage in the energy sector as it prepares to host the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit (GELS) 2025 in Puri from December 5 to 7.

The international event, organised by the Department of Energy, Government of Odisha, will bring together energy ministers, policymakers, innovators, and researchers from India and abroad to deliberate on the future of sustainable power and innovation.

The summit’s logo was unveiled on Thursday at the Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi by Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik and Odisha Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo. The event also marked the launch of the official website — www.gelsodisha2025.com

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary, Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev said that experts and stakeholders from more than seven countries, including Canada, Brazil, Indonesia, Bhutan, and Singapore, are expected to participate. “This conference is about sharing best practices and innovative solutions in the energy sector so that others can benefit from collective knowledge,” he added.

Themed “Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation,” the summit will focus on three key priorities — ensuring sufficient and efficient power supply, balancing ecological sustainability with economic growth, and driving innovation across the energy value chain.

GELS 2025 is being organised in collaboration with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. The event is expected to serve as a landmark platform for knowledge exchange and cooperation among Indian states and international partners.

Union Minister Shripad Naik said the summit would play a key role in advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of sustainability and cooperative federalism, and in enabling India’s journey toward achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070.

Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo said, “Odisha is proud to host a summit of this scale, bringing together global leadership and setting the ball rolling for a community of practice among energy ministers. Through GELS 2025, we aim to create a platform where states can learn from one another and turn innovation into progress.”

Energy ministers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Bhutan are among the dignitaries expected to attend. Leading global experts such as Gareth Walsh and Pierre Noel from the Tony Blair Institute will also share insights during the summit.

With Odisha emerging as a hub for clean energy and industrial development, the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit 2025 is poised to position the state as a thought leader in shaping India’s energy transition.
