Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will organize a statewide “National Pledge Against Drug Abuse” on August 18, 2026, as part of the 6th anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA).
Chief Secretary Anu Garg has written to all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Commissioner-cum-Secretaries, Revenue Divisional Commissioners, and District Collectors directing them to ensure wide participation in the campaign.
According to the letter, the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, will lead a nationwide drive on August 18 with the goal of mobilizing 10 to 12 crore citizens to take a collective pledge against drug abuse and reinforce the vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat.
All government departments have been asked to instruct offices and institutions under them to conduct pledge-taking ceremonies at district, block, and ULB levels. The aim is maximum public participation along with generation of e-certificates as per the schedule.
The National Pledge must be organized in all schools, colleges, universities, private and public institutions, and government offices on August 18, 2026. Nodal Officers will be appointed at state, district, and block levels to coordinate with the SSEPD Department for planning and smooth execution of the programme.
Departments have been told to ensure at least 10% of Odisha’s total population takes the pledge against drug abuse on the designated day. State and district headquarters are expected to join the programme virtually to demonstrate commitment to NMBA. IEC & Branding: Departments must use the NMBA logo, mascot, helpline number 14446, and other IEC material for visibility and awareness.
The Chief Secretary added that any further instructions from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment will be circulated to departments and district administrations for immediate implementation.The initiative seeks to strengthen community awareness and collective resolve against substance abuse across Odisha.
