Odisha To Set Up Four New Tahasils To Improve Urban Services

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Tuesday announced plans to create four new Tahasils in the state to improve public service delivery in major urban areas.

The move follows a review by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, which highlighted difficulties in managing large Tahasils such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Sambalpur—cities that also host the state’s major municipal corporations.

According to Madhusmita Sahoo, Additional Secretary, two new Tahasils will be carved out of Bhubaneswar Tahasil, one from Cuttack Tahasil, and another from Sambalpur Tahasil.

District Collectors of Khurda, Cuttack, and Sambalpur have been asked to submit detailed proposals within seven days. These proposals must include proposed locations, villages, R.I. Circles, staffing requirements, financial implications, and digital maps.

“You are, therefore, requested to submit a detailed proposal for the creation of new Tahasils with proper justifications, along with the proposed locations of the new Tahasils, the names of the R.I. Circles, and the names of the villages with their respective P.S. to be assigned to each Tahasil,” the official letter instructed.

Proposals are expected to take into account geographical contiguity, administrative convenience, and consultations with elected representatives and stakeholders.

The government said the new Tahasils are intended to enhance administrative efficiency and ensure better access to public services for citizens in densely populated urban areas.

The department has stressed that the matter is “extremely urgent.”
