Bhubaneswar: Odisha will soon have the country’s first semiconductor production unit. SRAM & MRAM Group, a United Kingdom-based business conglomerate has proposed to set up a semiconductor fabrication unit on 40 acres of land near Bhubaneswar with an investment of Rs 30,000 crore in the first phase.
The Group’s authorities have revealed this at a press conference, said an official release.
The unit to be established with a total investment of Rs 2 lakh crore within the next two months will provide direct employment opportunities for 400-500 and indirect employment opportunities for a large number of young men and women.
Earlier, India used to depend on China, Taiwan, Korea, etc for its semiconductor chips which are used in equipment ranging from washing machines to airplanes.
With the establishment of this unit in Odisha, work on several types of machinery waiting for semiconductor chips can be expedited without depending on foreign countries manufacturing semiconductor chips, the Group’s authorities said.
The Group while expressing interest to establish its production unit in Odisha based on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s call and the availability of skilled and efficient manpower here has thanked the State government.
The Group’s Vice Chairman Gurujee Kumaran Swami and Odisha In-charge Debadutta Singh Deo briefed the press at the Make in Odisha Conclave, 2022.
Among others, the press briefing was attended by officials of the Government of Odisha, LN Agrawal, Rohini Singh Deo, and Priyanka Singh Deo.
