Bhubaneswar: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Tuesday emphasized the importance of a robust early warning system as a cornerstone for effective disaster management.
Speaking at a consultation event organized by the United Nations India and Reliance Foundation, the Minister highlighted Odisha’s commitment to further improving its disaster response mechanisms.
“Once we perfect the early warning system, mitigating the impact and managing natural disasters will become significantly easier for the government,” Pujari stated. He acknowledged Odisha’s reputation as a national leader in disaster management and stressed the need for a collective approach involving multiple stakeholders to address future challenges.
Citing the recent Severe Cyclonic Storm Dana, which impacted Odisha in October, Pujari said the state government had shared its experiences and exchanged ideas with other participants at the event. “Odisha’s handling of natural disasters has become a role model for the entire country, and we continue to learn and evolve from past experiences,” he added.
The consultation, hosted in Bhubaneswar, was attended by UN Resident Coordinator for India Shombi Sharp and Reliance Foundation CEO Jagannatha Kumar.
Participants deliberated on strategies for improving early warning systems and discussed lessons learned from disaster management efforts.
