Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow weather warning for several districts in Odisha, predicting light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning accompanied by gusty winds from May 22 to May 26.
The forecast highlights potential hazards, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours, with wind speeds expected to reach 30-50 kmph in affected areas.
On Thursday, May 22, districts including Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nawarangapur are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.
The warning extends to South Odisha districts such as Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal on Friday, May 23, with Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh also at risk.
Over the weekend, on May 24 and 25, additional districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nuapada, and Angul are expected to face similar conditions.
By May 26 and 27, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are forecast across parts of Odisha, with minimal changes anticipated through May 31.
The IMD also warns of hot and humid conditions in coastal districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Isolated pockets in Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Sonepur may see maximum temperatures exceeding 40°C.
