Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested Harekrushna Sahoo, Junior Engineer, Belapada block in Bolangir district, while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 as final installment of an overall demand of 14,000 bribe from a beneficiary to return of providing a case record for preparation of muster roll for payment of wages to job card holders engaged in the construction work of a dug well of the beneficiary under “Open Well Irrigation Scheme”.
Sahoo had earlier received Rs 7,000 from the beneficiary. However, he was demanding the remaining amount of bribe from beneficiary to return the case record and facilitate the release of payment to the job card holders engaged in construction work of the beneficiary.
Finding no other means, the beneficiary (complainant) reported the matter over toll free number of the Odisha Vigilance narrating his harassment, and it was registered on Thursday. Accordingly, Vigilance Officials made the plan and trapped the accused on Friday while accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from the beneficiary. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of accused Sahoo and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations related to Sahoo from the disproportionate asset (DA) angle.
Sambalpur Vigilance has registered a case in this connection under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Amendment), 1988. An investigation into the case is underway and a detailed report is awaited.
