Mayurbhanj: In a bizarre incident, locals bathing in a river saved the life of a newly born child who was dumped on the banks of the river by a stranger from a bridge.

According to reports, local women were bathing under the bridge of a river near Athangaon village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Friday. Suddenly, a man came on a bike, took out a bag and dropped it from the bridge. After some time, the bathing women heard the sound of a baby crying. They recovered the bag and on opening it, found a newborn boy inside it.

The stranger had wrapped the child in a newspaper and put him in the bag. Fortunately, the bag fell on the sand instead of on the rocks on the river bank. Local people rescued the boy and rushed him to Udla Medical Center where the child has been admitted to the ICU.
