Odisha Vigilance Catches Kendujhar Labour Officer Taking Rs 20K Bribe

Bhubaneswar: In a further update on the bribery case, Odisha Vigilance has recovered cash amounting to Rs 7,29,200 and approximately 300 grams of gold jewellery during searches conducted at the premises of Akash Bisoi, District Labour Officer (DLO) of Kendujhar.

Bisoi, an OLS-I officer, was caught red-handed by the Vigilance team on Sunday evening while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an electrical contractor. The contractor had approached the Vigilance authorities after Bisoi allegedly demanded the amount for granting a labour licence in favour of his agency. The contractor, engaged by TPNODL for electrical installation works, had applied online for the labour licence on 14 August 2026 as required under the rules of the Labour and ESI Department, Government of Odisha.

When the contractor enquired about the issuance of the licence on August 16, Bisoi allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 for the purpose. The contractor subsequently reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities.

Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches were carried out at two locations linked to Bisoi from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle. The entire cash of Rs 7.29 lakh was unearthed from his government residential quarter in Kendujhar and seized, along with the gold jewellery.

Further investigation is underway, and a detailed report is awaited.
