Odisha Wakes Up To Dense Fog As Mercury Soars In Several Parts Of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Several areas in Odisha woke up to dense fog on Thursday morning affecting normal life. As the visibility was reduced drastically to 50 meters, vehicular traffic was disrupted.

A blanket of dense fog covered Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Bhadrak, while moderate to dense fog occurred in some places of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak as well as in Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jajpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh. The Bhubaneswar office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued dense fog warning in four Odisha districts on Friday, while the SRC has directed all the District Collectors to remain alert.

Meanwhile, the mercury rose by 3°C-4°C in several places during the last 24 hours under the influence of western disturbances. The minimum temperatures in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack twin cities were 14.4°C and 14.8°C respectively.

Surprisingly, the maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday in Koraput was 33.2°C – 4°C higher than normal. The day/ maximum temperatures recorded a sharp rise in several other places in Odisha too. The day temperature in Paralakhemundi touched 34.2°C, while the mercury remained above 32°C in most places. In Keonjhar and Jharsuguda, the day temperature was 4.8°C above normal. The day temperature was 2.8°C higher in Angul, 3.7°C higher in Balasore, 2.2°C higher in Bhubaneswar, and 3.6°C in Sambalpur.

The weather office has predicted that the weather will remain dry in the state for the next seven days and the minimum temperature will increase by up to 4°C.
