Bhubaneswar: The Odisha women’s mountaineering team, which successfully scaled the 6,111-metre-high Mount Yunam in Himachal Pradesh, met Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati at Lok Bhavan here on Monday.
Congratulating the mountaineers on their achievement, the Governor interacted with the team members and heard about the challenges and experiences they encountered during the expedition.
Of the 11 members who participated in the expedition, five successfully reached the summit of Mount Yunam, while six had to abandon the climb midway due to health-related issues.
The Governor said the team’s achievement was a matter of pride and honour for Odisha. He expressed hope that their success would inspire more women in the state to take up mountaineering and other adventure sports.
Appreciating the determination, courage and enthusiasm displayed by the mountaineers, the Governor wished them success in their future endeavours.
Haresh Kumar Mishra, Vice-President of the Association for Adventure and Social Activities (AASA), and Ganesh Chandra Jena, Secretary of the association and a mountaineer, were also present during the interaction.
