Odisha Yatri Safety App

Bhubaneswar: In a move aimed at making public and shared mobility safer, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday (August 31) launched the Odisha Yatri Safety App, offering passengers one-click SOS assistance, live location sharing and other emergency-response features.

The app was launched on the occasion of Local Self-Government Day in the presence of Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Odisha Yatri brand ambassador and actor Archita Sahu.

The safety module has been integrated into the Odisha Yatri platform to provide passengers and drivers with quick access to emergency assistance when they need it most.

One of the key features of the app is Shake & Alert, which allows users to trigger an emergency alert simply by shaking their mobile phone. The feature is aimed at helping users seek assistance quickly, particularly in situations where navigating through the app may not be possible.

The app also comes with a one-click SOS facility, enabling passengers to immediately call the emergency response number 112 and alert their designated emergency contacts.

Users can share their live location with trusted contacts, allowing them to monitor their journey in real time. The app also provides quick access to police, ambulance and fire services.

The safety features have been designed for both passengers and drivers, with the government emphasising the need for an emergency mechanism that can be accessed quickly during stressful situations.

The Odisha Yatri Safety App includes:

  • One-click SOS and emergency assistance
  • Shake & Alert for discreet SOS activation
  • Live location sharing with trusted contacts
  • Quick access to police, ambulance and fire services
  • Audio recording and sharing during emergencies
  • Trusted contact integration
  • ‘Mark Ride as Safe’ facility to close an alert after reaching safety
  • Emergency helpline numbers available in one place

Launching the app, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said safe, accessible and dependable mobility was essential for building citizen-friendly and prosperous cities.

He stressed that technology should be used to strengthen public confidence and enable citizens, particularly women, to travel independently and without fear.

Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the initiative reflected the Odisha government’s commitment to developing a modern urban transport ecosystem focused on the safety, dignity and convenience of citizens.

Archita Sahu, the Odisha Yatri brand ambassador, appealed to citizens, especially women and young people, to use the platform and familiarise themselves with its safety features.

She said the initiative puts essential safety tools and immediate assistance directly in the hands of passengers.

Odisha Yatri has been developed as an integrated mobility platform offering services such as ride booking, Ama Bus services, FASTicket spot booking and boating facilities.

With the addition of the safety module, the platform aims to provide a more convenient, affordable and secure mobility experience across the state.

Citizens can download or update the Odisha Yatri app to access the new safety features.
