Odisha’s Koraput Coffee

Bhubaneswar: From the forested hills of Koraput to the tables of an international diplomatic gathering, Odisha’s famed coffee is set to get a global audience, with Tiger Bright, a 100% Arabica variety, being served to delegates and guests at the two-day BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.

The coffee was selected by the Odisha government following a communication from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which sought indigenous and homegrown products from states to showcase at the mega international gathering.

Around 1,500 packets of Tiger Bright, each weighing 250 grams, have been dispatched to New Delhi by the Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation of Odisha (TDCCOL) for the summit.

The MEA had asked Odisha whether it could contribute products for media kits under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, providing the state with an opportunity to showcase its distinctive products before an international audience.

With Koraput Coffee drawing growing appreciation in recent years, the ministry also sought 1,500 packets of the coffee for delegates attending the summit.

The request, however, came with a tight deadline. The entire consignment had to reach New Delhi by September 9, prompting the team handling the order to work against the clock. The coffee was transported by air and delivered within 36 hours.

Tiger Bright, grown in the highland and forested areas of Koraput, has emerged as one of Odisha’s best-known indigenous products. Its distinctive flavour and aroma have helped the coffee gain recognition beyond the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also praised Koraput Coffee for its flavour and described it as the “Pride of Odisha”. He had highlighted the coffee during one of his Mann Ki Baat programmes last year, drawing attention to the potential of Odisha’s indigenous produce.
